It is definitely Holiday Season!
It starts with Thanksgiving just two days away. I included a section in my book on gratitude because I learned how kindnesses from others could open my heart, even in the worst of days. Most of the people who extended a soft smile, a kind email, or a token showing that they were thinking of us never fully understood how that little action destroyed patches of bitterness in my soul.
Thanksgiving is a recognized day to voice gladness, to be actively Giving/Thanks. It is a country-wide 24 hour section of time to recall when a moment of kindness touched our lives in the last year. It is a good tradition. But maybe we should take time to reflect on times we extended ourselves toward another person...... we might become aware of a change in another because of our tiny action (making a new friend, seeing a person enter more quickly into a conversation, etc.) I believe in the adage that the behavior that is rewarded, becomes more prevalent. And if we begin to see the positive effects of our small kindnesses toward others, maybe we will be more thankful that we reached out......and do it again and again.
I frequently speak to various caregiver groups, and would love to see as many people as possible. Come share your stories with me and the rest of the group.
